Catheterisation Laboratory
The Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) is a special hospital room with diagnostic imaging equipment used to visualize the arteries of the heart and the chambers of the heart and treat any stenosis or abnormality found. Minimally invasive tests and procedures can be performed to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases.
Our state-of-the-art Cath Lab is also equipped with electrophysiology capabilities, which can specifically diagnose and treat diseases of the heart rhythm.
The common procedures conducted in Cath Lab are:
-
Coronary angiogram
-
Coronary angioplasty
-
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)/ stenting
-
Electrophysiology (heart rhythm) studies and ablation.
If indicated, the patients may proceed to the state-of-the-art 640-slice CT Angiography or Magnetic Resonance Angiography. Open procedures (open surgery) and minimally invasive procedures (endovascular procedures) may be performed to complement each other.
Whereas some patients may benefit from endovascular procedures, others may require open surgery and yet others may benefit from a combined approach of endovascular intervention and open surgery.
